For over seventeen years, Tiah M. Workman, Notary Public, has been helping clients with real estate conveyancing, mortgages, wills and other estate planning. Many clients were asking if she would be their Power of Attorney if they could no longer manage their affairs. Tiah was finding that she quite often had senior clients whose only family was in another part of the country or out of the country. There were also those who may have outlived their family and friends. As such, she has been offering this service for a select few clients for a number of years and now feels it is time to expand this service and offer it to everyone in the Nanaimo area. Family By Choice is a team of caring women, the kind that you would like to have as a daughter or a friend.
We understand that it is important to listen to our senior clients as every individual has different needs, wants and goals. Our job is to use our experience to realize those needs, wants and goals. We support your right to choose the kind of life you want to have, whether that means staying in your own home as long as it is possible or deciding to move into a care facility, but only when the time is right for you.
We protect our client’s interests as if they were our own, but never at the expense of their happiness or comfort. We will treat your friends and family the way you would want them to be treated, particularly in times of stress and grief.

Tiah became a Notary Public in 1992. Prior to becoming a Notary, Tiah worked for a number of law firms in Nanaimo primarily in conveyancing. She operates a busy and successful practice in Nanaimo where she is a well-known and respected member of the community. Tiah has always been an advocate of her senior clients and obtained her Certified Senior Advisor (“CSA”) designation in 2007. This designation means that Tiah has completed a course on physical, social and financial issues facing today’s very diverse population of seniors.
Tiah’s areas of expertise include estate and will planning. She is the kind of person who you would want on your side if you could not speak for yourself. Because of her unique blend of compassion and knowledge, many clients have chosen Tiah to be their Executor, Power of Attorney and Personal Representative.
Tiah has been married to Greg for 22 years and has two children, Graeme and Sean.

Cory moved to Nanaimo in the summer of 2003 and started working for Tiah M. Workman, Notary Public, shortly thereafter. Over the last 6 years, Cory has become Tiah’s “right-hand woman”, looking after all aspects of the notarial practice.
Cory became more interested in the estate planning end of the business in the past few years and last year obtained her designation as a Certified Senior Advisor. As a CSA, Cory is dedicated to providing the highest quality of service possible to her senior clients.

Cory and her partner, Len, have been together for 11 years and have three children, Kyla, Madison and Justin.
